Mantra for a Hummingbird

a lotus
drives a nail
into a tree

how rare, how empty

a woman
in a burgundy dress
is the back of a cliff. her hands make
knots in the rain, a slender
coexistent rain, rain with distant
	(transient) birds

a wave of
atmospheric evergreens
gleams across her face
self-absorbed, by nature

an unknown purpose fills my lungs

the cloud is forever and still here
dances in the streets
asks for eyes and has no mouth

what vanishes in a name?
	verbs, caterpillars

but a hummingbird
in pencil
does magic

  1. “Her hands make knots in the rain” ..such a great line…it makes me want to go outside on the next rainy day and braid and knot the water falling from the sky with my hands…hummingbirds on my mind πŸ™‚
