Impressions in the Dark

this clementine highway
the white wings of elderflowers
a woman and an endless moon

are unwilling reminders that
dawn has aged a little
or, the conundrum of an eager kiss
the fresh uncertainty that time is
always behind us

either way.

these feathers are also dancing shoes

to grieve without flying
merely to be finished in foliage

These “Impressions in the Dark” are more like odds and ends. Of both collage and poetry. I am not certain they go together, and I’m not certain I really want them to. But I thought it might be fun to combine them here anyway.

  1. I like how you combined them…I feel like “dawn has aged a little” is tethered so tenderly to “fresh uncertainty that time is always behind us…and to soar and fly within our own aging dawns makes the grief of it ending one day a little more ok as we hold once dancing feathers to our chest…really lovely…
