today, i will plunge readily into the day’s perfume into this heart-stopping solitaire, this blossoming wheelbarrow of misfortune i will return to the skies as a pendulum, will claw at the entrance of this lithium mine, this drive thru mirror, these lips of magnanimous salt and i will keep time on thumbs of seaweed and i will find solitude among tea leaves in a light-flash of dystopian clouds among flowers and over wind, too these desires will seed and this body will erupt in a garden in a phantom staircase, in hips of wet stone in the metamorphosis of love and grief in these eyes full of sex and confusion and i alone will carry me and my subterranean arms will barely touch the ground

Not at the start of my day, but a delight to read at the end of my day, at the start of my dreams. ✨ Your chapbook is fantastic!

Wow…I love this one..so good. And the accompanying image is perfect. The “plunging into the day’s perfume” is such a perfect beginning. And then developing the picture of this life with each stanza, through the eyes of this woman, culminates exquisitely with “these desires will seed and this body will erupt in a garden in a phantom staircase, in hips of wet stone in the metamorphosis of love and grief
in these eyes full of sex and confusion”…such truth and clarity. And ” i alone will carry me and my subterranean arms will barely touch the ground” completes the poem with the courageous realization that, though we have those who will support and love us, we indeed ultimately walk our road alone.
Excellent.

Such a beautifully written critique. Thank you, as always, for your insights, my friend. I think the last stanza is the most meaningful to me, too–the idea that, no matter what’s happening around us, we must have the courage to rise each day and plunge ourselves into the pleasures and misfortunes of living, ultimately, alone.
