Handlebars

i.

an armchair doesn’t
attach to life

a cactus doesn’t
make promises
doesn’t shed tears over
lemonade or wet suitcases

this secret we’d rather forget
what is eaten
what is remembered

ii.

adrift on wood
imagining
we’re freer now
than we used to be

that this is inevitable
the houses we used to live in
the snails and sordid footprints
that love is best left to pretty women
	and fools in the dark

iii.

the apple of my discontent
your skin against my teeth

these arms won’t
moor forever
these handlebars weren’t
made to stick

  1. “the apple of my discontent”..great line..sometimes our discontent becomes the apple of our eye…time wasted when we should be cherishing what will indeed pass away..”these arms won’t
    moor forever
    these handlebars weren’t
made to stick”..great closing paragraph..nothing remains forever..well done
