Imaginary Conversations, paper collage, 2022
Here’s a fresh batch of artwork. All of these collages are minimal. In fact, Photographic is the only one that’s more than two pieces.
When I first started my collage practice, I focused on combining lots of pieces, with filling the page with random and/or juxtaposing images. But I’ve since learned that I find greater satisfaction in combining just the right pieces (which often feels like an act of fate), even if it’s only two. Though, the search for two or three perfect pieces is not simple. It’s often challenging and time-consuming. I saw another collage artist post about this topic on Instagram a few days ago, and he summed up the process using what I think is a very appropriate quote from Mark Twain: “I didn’t have time to write a short letter, so I wrote a long one instead.”
If you haven’t already followed my collage account (@tulcollage) on Instagram, you are welcome to follow me. I post new artwork (almost) daily.
