If the Sky Was Made of Oranges, paper collage, 2021
If you’ve been reading this blog for awhile, you probably know how much I enjoy pairing my collage art with music. I typically share one song per post, or 8-10 collages. But, I’ve been thinking for some time now that I’d like to create a post in which I pair individual collages with music that I think really brings them to life, or deepens the aesthetic experience.
This is that post, and it was more difficult than I imagined–mostly because I didn’t want to rehash the art and music pairings from my Instagram feed (although, admittedly, a few are repeats). Instead, I wanted to create something novel and interesting. So, I dug deep into the archives…and I hope you like what I came up with.
Below you’ll find each collage with its respective music pairing beneath it. Please enjoy.

If you enjoyed these art and music pairings, be sure to follow me on Instagram.
Also, I did some spring cleaning in my shop yesterday. I said goodbye to some old prints and freshened things up with some newer pieces.

I really enjoyed this. Love the format, tying in each collage with a song. Wonderful collages. And great song choices.

Wow this is really excellent! I think you knocked it out of the park. I love art to stand alone on its own…but I also love to combine art forms..it so often augments the art and allows us to see something we hadn’t before. Dance and word, music and collage’, paint and poetry…it is all a lovely collaboration and here you have managed to heighten the experience of your collages’…so good..I can appreciate how long this must have taken to fit the song with the collage’. I love Sunday Drive & Duran Duran, hope in an ordinary world… and Vivaldi with Self Portrait…invigorating and alive. And Cosmic paired with Eyes without a Face…I feel like I can see her face now, vivid with longing. And Girls Just Want to Have fun as the woman skies across a field of flowers, a field of wild possibility. π And Sky’s the Limit with Take on Me. Dreams and reality as one..well done, my friend! I can’t wait for more!

Thank you so much! I had a lot of fun with this post. I, too, like to enjoy art/poetry/music on its own much of the time, but sometimes adding an extra layer of sensory experience really brings the work to life. My favorite was probably the Vivaldi-Self-Portrait pairing. The music almost makes me feel like the collage is moving, plants growing and springing to life. I am delighted you like this post so much! Have a wonderful weekend, my friend! π
