O Christmas Tree

Carolina Chickadee

I decided to do some Christmas-themed activites with my bird feeders this year. First, I made a feeder out of a natural wood Christmas tree (I didn’t make the wood frame–I bought that. I did, however, convert it into a bird feeder). I also bought them a little Christmas bell made of nuts, seeds, fruit, and mealworms.

Most of the photographs below are of the tree feeder, but there are a few featuring the bell treat. I have the tree set up on my back deck (where the pumpkin feeder used to be), and it’s attracting lots of little birds: chickadees, titmice, wrens, warblers, and finches. I will probably keep the tree feeder up for the rest of the winter, as that area of my backyard has quickly become a popular feeding and gathering spot for the birds, outside of my main feeding station.

And lastly, I have included three photos of a squirrel sleeping in the sun. As I was photographing the tree feeder this afternoon, I noticed there was a squirrel relaxing on the deck several feet away. Its eyes grew heavier and heavier until it eventually fell asleep.

I hope you enjoy these photos.
