Wishing on a Star, paper collage, 2025
During my meditation this morning, a thought came to mind that I believe is worth sharing: this is your moment.
What that means to me: this day is your moment to enjoy life, to be receptive to life, to engage with life in an inspired and meaningful way. To my mind, the inner work that we do is just as much about cultivating an awareness of the world that exists outside of us as it is about healing and releasing our inner defenses and resistances to life. It’s about learning to meet our environment in a manner that isn’t ego-centered, to treat our environment and everything in it as if it has soul, to transcend the ordinary and the mundane.
For those who may need to hear it: this is your moment. Today is your moment to lose yourself for a while. To get lost in the beauty of a flower or a bird, in the ritual of preparing a meal, or of simply taking a walk—of feeling your body move in a healthful way and the sun shine down on your face without the intrusion of your own thoughts and emotions and without the distraction of your phone.
This is your moment to step out of isolation. To cultivate an awareness of the web of life that exists all around you and of which you are an inextricable part. This is your moment to use your senses and your creativity to immerse yourself in the simple activities of everyday life and experience their depth. To enjoy the fundamental act of being alive. This is your moment to shine your light in the world, to be present, to be soulful, to be an artist of Being itself.
