White-breasted Nuthatch (male)
Every year, I put pumpkins on my front porch in the fall. And when fall is over, or when it’s time to transition from Thanksgiving to Christmas decor, I usually cut up the pumpkins and put them in the woods behind my home for the deer and other critters to eat.
Earlier this week, I got the idea to take one of my small pumpkins and make a feeder out of it for the birds and squirrels in my backyard. The little birds (chickadees, wrens, nuthatches, titmice) really seem to like it, and so do the squirrels. When this one is finished, I may take my remaining pumpkin and use it to make another feeder–or even two.
I hope you enjoy these photographs.
