Deep Space Lounge & Other Art

Deep Space Lounge, paper collage, 2026

Here are some new experiments in collage art. Most of these collages come from a stack of 1930s-1950s National Geographic magazines I recently acquired. I’ll probably be working with those magazines for awhile, as they have some really terrific images in them, which I’m excited about. Not all of my magazine hauls are so fruitful!

That said, all of these collages have been glued except Deep Space Lounge. I built that one on my scanner (which was easy to do since it’s only two pieces). I’m not ready to stop working with either of the images in that collage yet. And while it’s probably my favorite composition here, I’m not certain Deep Space Lounge is actually the best use of either of image. So, you can expect to see both the black hole sky and retro poolside lounge again in the near future.

I hope you enjoy this collection.

  2. I love reading your process notes on these–I too loved Deep Space Lounge the best, and I’m curious about what tells you that a collage is done. I suppose that’s a hard question for any artist in any medium or genre to articulate.
