Lightkeepers

During my mediation this morning, a thought came to mind that I haven’t shared in awhile and that I think is worth sharing (or re-sharing) today:

It is not your job to acquire belongings; it is your job to figure out what belongs to you and create extensions of its light.

This is a thought that first came to my mind on waking one morning a few years ago. It was one of those fortuitous occasions in which the unconscious mind seems to offer us answers to questions or solutions to problems during those precious moments between wakefulness and sleep.

That said, this particular sentiment resonated very deeply with me and has become a core belief of mine. I don’t have much to say about it in terms of analysis. I don’t think much needs to be said—only that we might all be better off if we spent less time pursuing material belongings and more time chasing what belongs to our hearts.

I hope this is something you can take with you today and wish you a beautiful Monday.

  1. I love when thoughts come to us on a dream or right before awakening…and what a beautiful thought you have shared..yes, to less time on things and more time on “what belongs to our heart.” Such poignant wording. Thank you for another wonderful reminder on how to live a more satisfying and meaningful life.

    1. I love when thoughts come to us in dreams or upon waking, as well! I don’t have that experience often, but I cherish it whenever I do. 😊 I’m glad you enjoyed this post.

  2. your words reminded me of a line from a Thich Nhat Hanh meditation that I have loved: “my actions are my only possessions.” Thanks for giving me a thoughtful moment!

  3. It’s funny how the unconscious mind can communicate. Just out the blue offering insight. Sometimes when I wake up I’ll have a song in my head, and I wonder, is my unconscious trying to tell me something through this song?

    1. That happens to me, too! Especially if it’s a song I haven’t heard in a long time, I wonder how that happens and where it comes from.

      1. I treat it like my horoscope. Which is kind of funny, I guess. But I do have that feeling it’s trying to tell me something.

      2. A horoscope—I love that. I sometimes think it’s trying to tell me something, too, or maybe it’s like a feeling or an emotional energy I should embrace that day.
