The Hideaway & Other Art

The Hideaway, paper collage, 2026

I’ve been in a bit of a lull, creatively speaking, for the past few weeks. I started some collage compositions and even some essays on various topics late last week, but to no avail…I just wasn’t into it. If it weren’t for the fox sighting last Sunday, I probably wouldn’t have posted anything at all.

That said, I did get a fresh batch of 1950s National Geographic magazines earlier this week, and that snapped me right out of my creative rut! New collage materials are almost always the perfect antidote to a dip in creativity (and to lots of other things, in my opinion). I’ve also got more magazines on the way.

I hope you enjoy these experiments in collage art.

  1. Welcome back! I always love seeing your collage work–it’s one of my great joys on WordPress. I loved the intensity of the bowler’s face in “Lanes.” I was going to say that it was my favorite, but “Crossing” is a kind of emotional sneaker wave: something about that one speaks to the sci-fi writer in me, I guess.

  2. I love “Be Still”. I feel like we were on the same wavelength this week 🙂 As I sang the song “Be Still & Know,” I felt like my eyes kept gazing at the Heavens…and I think “Messages in the Clouds” would be a lovely series!

    1. Thank you so much, my friend! When I saw your IG post of that song, I thought we were definitely on the same page, too…synchronicities! 😊
